Value of WordPress Data
“What is the value of your data?” is an import question to ask to a customer, but it doesn’t improve efficiency outright. Rephrase the question to “Why would your WordPress data be valuable in ServiceNow?”. You always want to answer the WHY, as in why would you need or benefit from your WordPress data brought into an Enterprise Platform, that handles the majority of your departmental and logistical automation. Well, that answer might be unique to the organization or very common around many of the same types of industries.
Situation
Let’s take the example for education with American University
- Their EdSpace Network
- Students: ~15,000 (2021)
- Faculty and Full time Staff: ~2,700
- Currently they are only using 5% of their total capacity.
- While 5% is small, it is almost 1,000 different sites to manage.
Problem
Based on their own numbers, the IT team would need to manage the contents of 900 sites. Now, there are many ways to manage the data, but being able to delegate that data to the owners is one way. However, that only helps the Data for the site, but not necessarily security or performance. That’s when you delegate to Automation. Whether that means Full Automation or Partial Automation.
Given that not all sites the university owns might be part of a Network, there might be a separate single site. For example. Maybe their domain is username.blogs.american.edu where blogs.american.edu is the Network. They might have another domain store.american.edu. You can individually setup sites as well. This would allow someone to provide a setup that might include WooCommerce.
You got a notification about a security flaw found in a version of your software? What if you have 900 versions of that software? Maybe 15,000? You may send out an all university email asking everyone to follow the steps to upgrade their site or if they are part of the Network of Sites, you can upgrade the whole network.
However, what if you had a scenario where only a few people installed a plugin and you had to go through all of the sites to find out who had what plugins. You want to give more access to users but want to know what they are installing.
You need to know how many Post Types are being created and the content for each post.
By default, WordPress uses the Post Types of “Pages” and “Posts”, so do we. However, there are many Plugins that use their own Post Types. We don’t want to prevent those plugins from being brought into ServiceNow, but we can’t anticipate what they may be. Luckily, we added functionality to add new post types and then associate them with a specific Integration Type.
Maintaining inventory in multiple systems can be very time consuming, inefficient, and eventually bad customer service. Running out of a product is not the customers fault, but they suffer. Your goal is to increase customer satisfaction by providing the most recent stock of the inventory to the website. The concept of Frontend of Store vs Backend of Store, can be different and synced together.
Solution
Given that the ServiceNow platform can provide so much more than just content, we want to utilize the different platform applications to further provide the integration value. ServicePress is that solution. It is the only WordPress integration in the ServiceNow store. WooCommerce adds more features.
- WordPress MultiSite to ServiceNow
- Automate Inventory
- Order from ServiceNow and adjust Inventory in WooCommerce
- Import 900 sites
- Sets up 2-3 Connections and Credentials for each site.
- Allow Separate owners of each site
- Add additional network sites with ease
- Sync Themes, Plugins, and Core system
